The North Valley
[ ]Northern Peaks
At the back of the valley, as far north as you can go without leaving the valley, jagged mountain peaks stretch skyward like hopeful hands from the earth's very core. It is said that the Northern Lights touch the top of the central mountain and the elders frequently traverse the rocky paths to witness it in times of great strife.
00
[ ]Eastern Wood
On the eastern side of the back portion of the great valley, tall, evergreen trees gather for miles of shadowed, protected land. Beneath these shadows, small animals dive for cover and climb for safety, for the wolves control this half of the valley and, with overall prey numbers dwindling, they're pretty hungry.
00
[ ]Eastern Meadows
Under the wolves' east-run domain, a luscious grassland takes up the majority of the valley's center. On this side of the river, the flowers are no so bright and the land is dotted with dens and holes dug for pups but it's understandably so. The wolves live in the woods, the meadows are just a bonus.
00
[ ]Central Boundary
The mighty Central river, flowing from north to south down the valley's center and effectively splitting the land down the middle. The wolves on the east, the horses on the west. Though the waters are calm, shallow and easily crossed, the species have come to a mutual agreement to avoid conflict: Wolves are confined to the east unless invited, the horses to the west unless invited. Both are free to play, fish and drink from the river's crystalline waters.
00
[ ]Western Meadows
On the other side of the river, right in plain sight of the carnivorous canines, the equine population flourishes off the rich grasses and brilliant wild flowers of their half of the meadows. Though the canines are rarely envious, the equines do frequently allow their foals to frolic with the pups, but only with keen supervision.
00
[ ]Western Woods
Opposite the wolves and their dark, shadowed forest, the equines also possess their own piece of tree-covered land at the back of the valley. Their woodland is much brighter with less trees for easier maneuvering, but it is a luxury usually ignored. The horses live in the meadows, the woodland is just a bonus.
00
[ ]Southern Boundary
The south most point of the valley is one never to be crossed. Beyond the hot, jagged rocks, nothing but horrible wasteland and terrible desert awaits those who venture forth. This is the end of the valley, the protective wall that keeps the northerners safe. It is wise that you heed its dusty warning.
11
No-No-Mans
[ ]Northern Highlands
The start of the wasted portion of the earth. Massive expanses of wasteland separate the north from the central from the south. Closest to the north, the wastelands are very rocky with numerous red rock formations, jagged hills and random ditches and depressions. It's wise to tread lightly here.
00
[ ]Wastelands
As you move south, the lands begin to flatten out, the rock formations disappearing and the dust building, gathering. The winds now whip across the completely flat land like striking snakes, tearing apart what little dead vegetation pokes up out of the cracks in the ground. It's not a pleasant place to be, that's for sure.
12
The City of Innes
[ ]City Wall
A massive stone wall surrounds the rather large, very much abandoned city of Innes, keeping out wild animals and providing the perfect look out point with its numerous watch towers. The dog packs in the city make wondrous use of it and it, and the electric barbed wire at the top, is the only reason the city has not been taken yet.
00
[ ]Main Street
The largest road in the city, it runs from one massive metal gate to the other (the only two entrances and exits to the city) and is lined with crumbling buildings and abandoned stores most animals use for shelter. Infrequently, food can be found on the counters or in the dumpsters, but rats seem to be the main course around here.
00
[ ]Central Park
Though it's called Central park, it is more like "the only park", located primarily on the north side of the city, a few blocks west of Main street. It's not a very large park, but suitable enough, complete with three different lakes, some fountains and war-torn statues, as well as dying trees and vegetation and even some remnants of the humans that once wandered these lonely paths.
00
[ ]Abandoned Apartment Complex
Some of the only remaining solid buildings in the city are located in this war-torn but still standing complex. The apartments are still furnished, the humans having left in a hurry and the animals have the freedom to choose any of the rooms as their home and den. The whole lot is watched carefully by the "Watchdogs", the prominent dog pack governing the whole city.
00
[ ]The Alleyways
Branching off in all directions from the apartment complex, alleys of all sorts, shapes and sizes provide the majority of trails, paths and routes through the city as most of the roadways are blocked by fallen buildings or impassible due to forgotten land mines. Garbage can still be found in dumpsters here and many houses, stores and other types of shelter can be found along these routes.
00
[ ]Innes Grand Cemetery
This is the city hotspot if you are one of those anti-social types; the cemetery. Few are brave enough to crawl through the holes in the bent iron fence or trudge through the massive expanse of war-based casualties, the spirits here restless and noisy. However those who do are almost promised a meal of low flying birds and the occasional small mammal.
00
[ ]The Sewer System
The city's greatest secret is the one invisible from above. Uncovered manholes and collapsed city streets lead down into the dark, forgotten sewer system where rats and dead bodies can provide a feast to those willing to pursue it. But, what the city inhabitants don't know is that these dark, winding tunnels lead to a ditch outside of the city in the northern wastelands.
00
So-No-Mans
[ ]Parched Grasslands
Surrounding the city walls, dried up, scratchy, pretty-much dead savanna fields stretch out into the open desert sands with no other vegetation to be found for miles. The sun is harsh, water pretty much nonexistent and the land hot and burning. But the soil is surprisingly soft and many desert animals can eek out a living here underground.
00
[ ]Southern Deserts
As you travel south, the grasses recede and sands begin to gather until you're trudging across a dusty, sandy, burning desert where the storms bring no rain and the winds bring no comfort. Even in the night, it is unbearably hot, too hot even for desert vegetation, leaving the land completely barren right up to the big cat's plateau.
00
The Southern Plateau
[ ]Northern Boundary
Like an oasis, at the very tip of the continent, a plateau rises out of the sand, it's edges steep, harsh and rocky, easily shooting hundreds of feet skyward. It is unwise to try and traverse it, the rocks have been known to give way under massive weight, sending cats and dogs alike plummeting to their deaths. However, caves dot the cliff surface, perfect little hiding places for the animals who really should not be there.
00
[ ]Savanna Grasslands
At the top of the towering cliffs, one will find a whole another world up out of the reach of most animals. High above the desert sands, grasslands stretch out for miles, surrounded on all sides by dense jungle. Prey is becoming scarce with the overpopulation of predators, however, so this land is not as heavenly as it appears.
00
[ ]Watering Hole
Somewhere where the grasslands transition to jungle, a surprisingly large lake sustains itself despite the southern heat and unwavering sunshine. Fish are often seen swimming through its waters while crocodiles bask on its shores. It's the only source of water on the plateau, though it's very rare to see a hyena gain the pleasure of drinking from it.
00
[ ]Central Jungle
Where the wolves have forest, the cats have mighty jungle, encircling the grasslands and enclosing much of the plateau in shadowy vegetation. Thick trees and ferns hide cubs from vicious avian scavengers and provide the cats with plenty of shelter, their hyena allies confined to the fields at the plateau's rear.
00
[ ]The King's Clearing
At the exact center of the rocky plateau, smack dab in the middle of the thick jungle, a space was cleared for the king's throne. There, a rocky cave was built to house his cubs and family and the trees knocked down to allow light to stream in. The king himself can usually be found sunning himself on one of many lounging rocks in the area.
00
[ ]Back Fields
Just beyond the jungle and right before you reach the sea, short, useless, green little grasses take refuge in a small little nook at the rear of the plateau, reserved for what the big cats consider "hyena scum". They are rarely permitted to roam beyond this boring, bland flat land, even though they were the original rulers of the south plateau.
00
[ ]The Southern Coast
The back and utmost rear of the plateau not only runs right up to the great black ocean at the southern most tip of the continent but it actually juts out over the water quite a ways, almost like a platform. Here, the elders often seek guidance from the stars while other cats merely gawk at the view.
